About the Role
What You’ll Learn
• Extensive film stock testing across various formats and emulsions (35mm & 120).
• Hands-on camera testing and evaluation including vintage and modern film cameras.
• Practical exposure to darkroom film processing workflows.
• Understanding different film chemistries and development processes (C-41, B&W, experimental processes).
• Film scanning and digitisation workflows used in professional labs.
• Basics of film handling, storage, and quality control.
• Exposure to film community initiatives, workshops, and events at The Panchrome Project.
What You’ll Work On
• Assist in testing and documenting new film stocks.
• Support camera testing and sample shooting sessions.
• Assist with darkroom processing and lab workflow preparation.
• Help with archiving, cataloguing, and film evaluation notes.
• Contribute to educational content and documentation around film photography.
Requirements
Core Requirements
Strong interest in film photography and analog processes
Basic understanding of camera fundamentals (exposure, ISO, aperture, shutter speed)
Willingness to learn film stocks, formats, and characteristics (35mm, 120, etc.)
Interest in darkroom workflows and film development processes
Comfortable handling film cameras and related equipment
Technical & Practical Skills
Basic experience with shooting (film or digital)
Understanding of different lighting conditions and exposure techniques
Ability to follow structured processes and instructions (important for lab work)
Attention to detail in handling film, negatives, and scans
Basic knowledge of image organisation and file handling
Mindset & Approach
Curious and willing to experiment and learn through practice
Patient and detail-oriented (essential for analog workflows)
Open to hands-on, repetitive tasks (film testing, cataloguing, etc.)
Ability to observe, document, and analyse results
