About the Role

What You’ll Learn
• Extensive film stock testing across various formats and emulsions (35mm & 120).
• Hands-on camera testing and evaluation including vintage and modern film cameras.
• Practical exposure to darkroom film processing workflows.
• Understanding different film chemistries and development processes (C-41, B&W, experimental processes).
• Film scanning and digitisation workflows used in professional labs.
• Basics of film handling, storage, and quality control.
• Exposure to film community initiatives, workshops, and events at The Panchrome Project.

What You’ll Work On
• Assist in testing and documenting new film stocks.
• Support camera testing and sample shooting sessions.
• Assist with darkroom processing and lab workflow preparation.
• Help with archiving, cataloguing, and film evaluation notes.
• Contribute to educational content and documentation around film photography.

Requirements

Core Requirements

  • Strong interest in film photography and analog processes

  • Basic understanding of camera fundamentals (exposure, ISO, aperture, shutter speed)

  • Willingness to learn film stocks, formats, and characteristics (35mm, 120, etc.)

  • Interest in darkroom workflows and film development processes

  • Comfortable handling film cameras and related equipment


Technical & Practical Skills

  • Basic experience with shooting (film or digital)

  • Understanding of different lighting conditions and exposure techniques

  • Ability to follow structured processes and instructions (important for lab work)

  • Attention to detail in handling film, negatives, and scans

  • Basic knowledge of image organisation and file handling


Mindset & Approach

  • Curious and willing to experiment and learn through practice

  • Patient and detail-oriented (essential for analog workflows)

  • Open to hands-on, repetitive tasks (film testing, cataloguing, etc.)

  • Ability to observe, document, and analyse results

Good to Have (Not Mandatory)

  • ce shooting on film cameras

  • Prior exposure to film development (B&W / C41 / E6)

  • Familiarity with different film stocks

  • Basic understanding of film scanning workflows
